According to the bug report linked there, it was supposed to be fixed several
months ago.

I've reopened https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=400838 so go there,
vote, and add anything you think may be useful.

Okay.

I had to upgrade GCC during the update process to get one package to compile,
so decided to do the whole emerge -e system, emerge -e world routine, not done
it in years. Still busy with world, will take a while ... I want to see if
that process makes any difference to this problem.

Gentoo devs have rolled out a fix for this, working normally again here.
